Nice guy on Wikipedia

Nice guy is a term in the general public discourse and in popular culture describing an adult or teenage male with friendly yet unassertive personality traits in the context of a relationship with a woman.^[1] A typical nice guy believes in putting the needs of others before his own, avoids confrontations, does favors, gives emotional support, and generally acts nicely towards women.^[2] There is an active debate about whether the nice guy personality profile may actually make a man less desirable to women romantically or sexually. Part of this debate includes speculation about hypocrisy among women in the dating world: that women may say they want a nice guy but won’t date him or have sex with him, and rather subconsciously prefer men who are more confident and assertive but less considerate.

According to McDaniel,^[1] popular culture and dating advice “suggest that women claim they want a ‘nice guy’ because they believe that is what is expected of them when, in reality, they want the so-called ‘challenge’ that comes with dating a not-so-nice guy.”

“Although women often portray themselves as wanting to date kind, sensitive, and emotionally expressive men, the nice guy stereotype contends that, when actually presented with a choice between such a ‘nice guy’ and an unkind, insensitive, emotionally-closed, ‘macho man’ or ‘jerk,’ they invariably reject the nice guy in favor of his ‘so-called’ macho competitor.”

Herold and Milhausen^[7] found that 56% of 165 university women claimed to agree with the statement: “You may have heard the expression, ‘Nice guys finish last.’ In terms of dating, and sex, do you think women are less likely to have sex with men who are ‘nice’ than men who are ‘not nice’?” A third view is that while “nice guys” may not be as successful at attracting women sexually, they may be sought after by women looking for long-term romantic relationships

Fool’s gold

I think it’s crazy that just one day set me to disregard my whole grown up strategy and that one person can take one set of goals and change them with only a simple “yes, lets hang out”, only to later remind you to wake the hell up.. It’s not that i was deceived by anyone or nor was anyone the fool but my self.. I took a liking to something shiny and forgot my self and grew in love with something i thought was golden.. it’s kind of embarrassing but was a lesson needed to learn.. i can’t say that this lesson will leave me more closed then ever but right now it sure feels like it..
